Denny's has launched a national catering program through ezCaret, giving franchisees a new weekday sales channel without adding kitchen capacity. More than 400 locations are live, with hundreds more set to join in coming weeks.
Denny's is taking its breakfast-and-comfort-food franchise beyond the diner counter. The chain said Tuesday it has launched a national catering program through ezCater, the food-ordering platform focused on workplace delivery.
More than 400 Denny's locations are live on ezCater's corporate-ordering system, with more set to join in the coming weeks. Customers can also place catering orders directly through Dennys.com. The move gives franchisees a new sales channel without adding kitchen capacity.
"This is more than a new way to order Denny's," said Chris Bode, the chain's president and chief executive. "With participating restaurants coming online nationwide, we have an opportunity to bring Denny's breakfast leadership and comfort food to more customers, more occasions and more communities."
Breakfast is the most-used search filter on ezCater, said Cindy Klein Roche, the platform's chief growth officer. That makes Denny's a natural fit for workplace orders that tend to cluster around morning meetings and catered events.
Denny's built a dedicated catering menu for the program. Options include the Grand Slam Buffet Bundle, Build-Your-Own Burger Bars, and individually packaged meals such as the Grand Slam Breakfast Box and Chicken Bacon Sandwich Box. The food ships in packaging designed to hold heat through delivery.
Catering demand peaks during weekday daytime hours, when diner traffic is typically lighter. Franchisees can use existing kitchen teams and operating routines to fill those orders without adding labor shifts.
Garren Grieve, chief executive of Seaside Dining Group, a multi-unit Denny's franchisee that tested the program, said the early response "exceeded our expectations." He called catering "a meaningful growth business" for the chain.
The rollout is the first national initiative to come out of Project Grand Slam, Denny's internal growth roadmap focused on restaurant performance, guest experience, and system-wide expansion.
Denny's operates roughly 1,500 locations across the U.S. The chain has been testing virtual brands and delivery services through Denny's on Demand, its own delivery platform, and three virtual concepts: The Meltdown, Banda Burrito, and The Burger Den.
