Delhi Weather: Rain, Thunder, and a Gradual Heat Rise

Rains hit Delhi on Saturday afternoon. The Regional Weather Forecasting Centre confirmed the development and posted a detailed forecast on social media. Light rainfall with thunder, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 40–70 km/h is likely over parts of the city – Jafarpur, Nazafgarh, Dwarka, Palam, IGI Airport, the areas around Vasant Vihar, Vasant Kunj and Ayanagar. The alert also covers NCR towns: Bahadurgarh and Gurugram, with rain expected in Faridabad, Manesar, Ballabhgarh, Gohana, Gannaur and Sonipat within two hours. The India Meteorological Department called for strong surface winds and very light to light rain during the afternoon and evening. Gusts could hit 40–50 km/h. Sunday's maximum temperature settled at 38.5°C, 1.4 degrees below the seasonal average. Monday is expected to see similar conditions: light rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds in the afternoon and evening. Highs around 39°C, lows near 26°C. Sunday's station-level readings varied. Ridge was the hottest at 39.1°C, 1.2 degrees above normal. Lodi Road logged 38.7°C, Palam 38.6°C and Ayanagar 38.4°C – the coolest spot at 3.1 degrees below average. Minimums ran from 23.4°C at Ridge to 26.2°C at Safdarjung. Humidity hit 61% at 8:30 AM. The Air Quality Index stood at 151, the moderate category. Monday's forecast: thunderstorms and strong wind, 39°C and humidity at 65%. Surface winds and very light rain expected in the afternoon. Conditions ease on Tuesday with partly cloudy skies, possible thunder and lightning. Tuesday's temperatures rise to 40°C with humidity at 70%. From Wednesday through Saturday, skies stay partly cloudy. Temperatures climb daily: 41°C Wednesday, 43°C by week's end. Humidity falls from 60% to 45% as the week dries out. By Saturday, the city is looking at hot, dry conditions.
