Delhi Liquor Shops to Close at 8 PM This Weekend Over CJP Protests

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said 18 metro stations will remain closed from 7:30 a.m. Friday until further notice. Services on the Airport Express Line will run only between Dhaula Kuan and Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25, DMRC said.

The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory Thursday asking residents to avoid unnecessary travel to the protest area. "App-based mobility, ride-hailing, food delivery, logistics and e-commerce platforms are advised to regulate operations in the restricted area for the duration of the prohibitory orders," the advisory said. No fresh advisory had been issued as of Friday.

The restrictions follow a CJP protest that has drawn large crowds to central Delhi for weeks. The group is demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET exam paper leak, which it says led to student suicides. On July 20, a march toward Parliament turned violent, with injuries on both sides.

The protests have spread to Maharashtra, Bihar and Telangana. No end to the sit-in at Jantar Mantar is in sight.
