DBS Group Holdings overtook BCA as Southeast Asia's most valuable brand at $24.5B, per Kantar's BrandZ ranking. The top 30 brands are worth $165.3B combined, up 26% since 2024.
DBS Group Holdings Ltd. has overtaken Bank Central Asia to become Southeast Asia's most valuable brand, according to Kantar's BrandZ ranking released Wednesday. The Singapore-based lender is valued at $24.5 billion, more than double its 2024 figure.
The top 30 brands in the region are collectively worth $165.3 billion, up 26% from two years ago. Eighteen brands grew, 16 at a double-digit clip, and four more than doubled their value. Kantar attributed the broad gains to strong consumer relevance and differentiation in increasingly competitive markets.
Financial services dominates the ranking, accounting for more than half of the total value in the top 30. Banking brands hold five of the top 10 positions. Telecommunications is the second-largest category, led by Thailand's AIS, while retail gains momentum through e-commerce platforms Shopee and Lazada.
DBS's growth is anchored in its positioning around sustainability and financial security, a strategy that has earned it recognition as Asia's safest bank for 17 consecutive years, Kantar said. The brand's proposition travels beyond Singapore, scaling across multiple markets.
The fastest-rising brand in the top 30 is POSB, Singapore's oldest bank, which jumped eight places to No. 13 with a value of $4.4 billion, up 126%. POSB's "Neighbours first, bankers second" purpose is reinforced through community-led initiatives and an AI-powered campaign that lets consumers interact with their future selves.
Lazada, ranked No. 12 at $4.5 billion, grew 105% on a strategy built around quality, authenticity and trust. Its "100% Legit" guarantee resonates across diverse markets, Kantar said.
Six new entrants joined the ranking this year. Malaysian telecom provider CelcomDigi came in at No. 14 with $4.2 billion. Vietnam-founded EV manufacturer VinFast ranked No. 15 at $4.0 billion. Malaysian retailer 99 Speedmart placed No. 21 at $2.6 billion. Indonesia's Mayapada Hospital entered at No. 24 with $2.4 billion. Thailand's SCB and the Philippines' BDO rounded out the newcomers at No. 28 and No. 29, each valued at $1.4 billion.
VinFast's "For a Green Future" mission combines accessible electric mobility with ecosystem innovation, including its GreenSM Taxi services. Mayapada Hospital has positioned itself as a provider of world-class healthcare within the region, reducing the need for outbound medical travel.
"Southeast Asia's most valuable brands have earned their place by building deep, meaningful connections with consumers around enduring human needs that transcend markets and cultures," Rika Sharma, executive managing director for Southeast Asia and Singapore at Kantar, said in the release. "Sustaining growth in the years ahead will require greater ambition and innovation."
The ranking is based on interviews with more than 120,000 respondents across 2,050 brands in 85 categories. Brands must be consumer-facing to qualify.
