Daicel Corp. launched four DURACON POM grades with 30% post-consumer recycled content, targeting automotive and industrial applications.
Daicel Corp.'s High Performance Polymers SBU launched four new DURACON POM grades containing 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) material, the company said July 22. The grades span standard, low-VOC, sliding, and tough variants, each targeting different industrial uses.
The products debuted at CHINAPLAS 2026 in Shanghai in April. The standard grade has a melt flow rate of 9. The low-VOC materials meet OEM requirements. The sliding grade offers improved friction properties, while the tough grade matches virgin POM performance, Daicel said.
A key challenge with PCR materials is property variability. Daicel said its compounding expertise and quality controls kept key mechanical properties at levels comparable to conventional grades under in-house tests.
Daicel has offered the DURACIRCLE re-compounding service since 2023, which recycled scrap from customer plants. That focused on post-industrial recycling (PIR). The new PCR-POM line uses material already in the market, marking a shift toward post-consumer feedstocks.
DURACON POM is used across automotive components, gears, connectors, and precision parts for its strength, wear resistance, and dimensional stability. Daicel said it is developing additional PCR-POM grades to meet broader demand.
