Corazon Mining starts maiden RC drilling at Feather Cap's historic Wembley mine, targeting high-grade gold extensions beneath and along strike from past workings. Results could define a new WA gold growth platform.
Corazon Mining (ASX:CZN) has started a maiden reverse circulation drilling program at the Feather Cap gold project in Western Australia, targeting the historic Wembley mine. The 2,000-metre, 20-hole RC program is the company's first systematic test of the deposit, focusing on extensions beneath the old workings and along strike, as well as the broader Wembley structural corridor.
Wembley produced roughly 1,050 ounces of gold from 1,510 tonnes between 1926 and 1935, confirming high-grade mineralisation within the project area. Managing Director Simon Coyle said the program follows a detailed review of historical exploration data and represents an important step in validating the system.
"The commencement of drilling at Wembley is an important milestone for Corazon and the Feather Cap gold project," Coyle said. "Our technical review has identified a compelling combination of shallow, high-grade historical gold results and a broader structural setting that remains significantly under-tested. We are not drilling simply to confirm what is already known. We are drilling to find out how big this is, and whether those high-grade hits are isolated pods or the surface expression of a much larger, structurally controlled system."
Coyle added that the historical results provide an excellent starting point, with multiple high-grade intersections at shallow depths. The opportunity lies in testing extensions along strike and at depth, as well as the broader Wembley structure, which has seen limited systematic drilling.
Feather Cap covers roughly 154 square kilometres and sits close to Westgold Resources' Fortnum operations. The project gives Corazon a third Western Australian gold growth platform alongside Two Pools and Chalice, with Wembley the first of several targets Coyle intends to test. Positive results would underpin follow-up drilling and future resource definition, while the broader landholding offers additional exploration upside.
Corazon shares traded at 9.4 cents before the market opened, giving the company a market capitalisation of about $21.4 million. The drilling program is expected to take several weeks, with assay results to follow.
