Conduit Re hires Mark Pickering, former Aspen Insurance CFO, to replace retiring Elaine Whelan. Pickering starts Nov. 30 with responsibility for capital and reporting.
Conduit Holdings, the Bermuda-based parent of reinsurer Conduit Re, hired Mark Pickering as its next chief financial officer. Pickering, formerly group CFO and treasurer at Aspen Insurance Holdings, starts Nov. 30.
He replaces Elaine Whelan, who told the board earlier this year she planned to retire. Whelan had served as Conduit's CFO since the company's founding.
Pickering brings 25 years in reinsurance. He will join the Conduit Holdings board as an executive director. His responsibilities include capital management, financial reporting and oversight of the investment portfolio.
At Aspen, Pickering spent 11 years. He held roles as Bermuda CEO and group chief capital management officer before becoming group CFO. He worked on Aspen's 2025 New York Stock Exchange IPO and the subsequent sale to Sompo, which closed earlier this year. Before Aspen, he held senior roles at Platinum Underwriters and Marsh McLennan.
"He brings extensive experience across the global reinsurance market and a strong track record of financial leadership," CEO Neil Eckert said in a statement.
Whelan, in her own statement, called her tenure "a privilege" and said she leaves "with great confidence in Conduit's future."
Conduit Re writes multi-line reinsurance out of Bermuda and London. The company has been building its underwriting footprint since launching in 2020.
