URUMQI. An international media tour showcasing Xinjiang's development kicked off Aug. 25, bringing together 16 participants from 13 countries including the United States, Britain, Germany, Italy, Russia, India and Brazil. The delegation includes journalists, experts, social-media influencers and Gen Zers, joined by Chinese reporters from outlets such as China Daily, Global Times and China News Service.
The event marks the sixth edition of the "A Date with China" series, which has hosted hundreds of foreign guests in more than 500 locations across the country. Organizers said the tour aims to build cross-cultural storytelling bridges and present an authentic view of Xinjiang.
"This is his first time in Xinjiang, and he had heard it's a unique place with a long and rich history," said Thomas Jay Hopkins, an American expert with China Daily Website, at the flag-handover ceremony. He said he was eager to learn how people here created their distinctive culture through diverse exchanges.
The delegation will spend seven days visiting Urumqi and the Changji Hui autonomous prefecture, focusing on technology, Silk Road culture and tourism, rural revitalization and intangible cultural heritage. The trip runs through Sept. 1.
