Kalshi flagged trades that earned over $90,000 in profits on prediction contracts tied to Trump statements. Almost all profits frozen.
A teleprompter operator is under investigation by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission over bets placed on the prediction market Kalshi, the company said. The trades were linked to statements made by President Donald Trump.
The operator made more than $90,000 in profits on the contracts. Kalshi froze almost all of that money after its surveillance team flagged the trades as suspicious in March, according to Robert DeNault, Kalshi’s head of enforcement.
“Our surveillance team promptly flagged and referred these trades to the CFTC after an exchange investigation,” DeNault said in a statement. “We have been assisting regulators on this matter and provided evidence we collected, as we do in any referral.”
The account holder worked for the federal government as a teleprompter operator, Kalshi said. The trades did not follow typical buying and selling patterns on contracts tied to Trump’s public statements. Market makers in so-called whistleblower channels also flagged some of the trades separately.
Kalshi retained most of the profits and froze the account. The CFTC has not commented. The White House did not respond to a request for comment. The investigation was first reported by ABC News.
