Brad Lightcap, longtime OpenAI exec, leaves to 'start something new'

Brad Lightcap, a senior OpenAI executive and close adviser to CEO Sam Altman, said Tuesday he is leaving the artificial intelligence company to "start something new." His departure adds to a string of leadership exits as OpenAI works to justify its $852 billion valuation and prepare for an expected initial public offering.
Lightcap joined OpenAI in 2018 and served as chief operating officer for four years before shifting to a special-projects role in April. At that time, chief revenue officer Denise Dresser took over most of his duties. In a post on X, Lightcap wrote that he feels "incredibly fortunate" to have spent nearly a decade at the company. "Mission success feels within sight," he said. "It has been the honor of my life to help bring us to this point."
