Bolivia's first USDT car sale now reaches BYD and Yamaha dealers

The Toyosa case is no longer isolated. BYD and Yamaha networks in Bolivia have signed on to similar arrangements, giving the country three vehicle brands that accept stablecoin payments. The expansion comes about two years after Bolivia's central bank lifted a ban on cryptocurrency transactions in mid-2024.

BitGo's LATAM Country Manager Alvaro Olivares used the summit, held in both La Paz and Santa Cruz, to review two years of stablecoin use and ask what infrastructure would push adoption into everyday commerce. His presentation was titled "2 years with USDT, what comes next?".

For dealerships, faster settlement means better cash-flow management. For the customer, the purchase feels closer to a card payment than a wire transfer. Stablecoin settlement is a core part of crypto market activity, and the Bolivia rollout shows that corner extending into physical retail.

BitGo's role sits at the institutional layer, handling the custody and processing that lets a dealer accept a digital asset for a high-price item. The organizers billed the summit as Bolivia's premier event for stablecoins and Web3 innovation.
