Bharathiraja laid to rest with state honours in Theni farmhouse

The mortal remains of legendary filmmaker Bharathiraja reached his hometown of Theni on Thursday for the final rites.

The Tamil Nadu government announced that the veteran director's body would be laid to rest with full state honours at his farmhouse, located between Devadhanapatti and Batlagundu. Theni District Collector R Vaithinathan ordered immediate preparatory work for the state funeral. Periyakulam Tahsildar Marudhapandi inspected the burial site on Thursday to oversee arrangements.

District authorities are coordinating security, crowd control, and logistical measures. A large number of film personalities, political leaders, and members of the public are expected to attend the funeral of the iconic director, who redefined rural themes in Tamil cinema.
