BA Unveils World's Largest Business-Class Cabin on A380

The 12-superjumbo makeover upgrades every cabin from suites to economy bedding; first deliveries were due mid-2026 and now arrive in the coming months.

British Airways has finished reconfiguring the interiors of its Airbus A380s, and the centerpiece is what the carrier calls the world's largest business-class cabin: more than 100 suites spread across the superjumbo's entire upper deck.
"This is the largest single investment that any airline has ever made in reconfiguring an aircraft, stretching from nose to tail and touching every single aspect of the experience on board," Chief Executive Sean Doyle said at a media event, which Business Insider attended.
More than 35,000 individual parts go into each aircraft as part of the retrofit, which includes new galleys and staircases, British Airways said.
The A380 has fallen out of favor with many carriers since the pandemic. The jet stays central to British Airways' fleet: the flag carrier runs 12 of the superjumbos, second only to Emirates. Airbus stopped building the type in 2021, and the aircraft is expected to stop flying by 2040.
British Airways is spending millions retrofitting its A380s as its most opulent offering. "You're going to see a glimpse into the future of long-haul air travel on British Airways, and it represents the investment we've been making in our premium experience, and the A380 is one of our flagships in demonstrating our commitment to that mission," Doyle said.
The investment runs against the US trend. Most American airlines have cut first class, while European carriers have been investing in extra luxury. British Airways showed off its new first-class suites in 2024, and Calum Laming, chief customer officer, said during that reveal: "Our ambition throughout this whole transformation journey is to take British Airways to the next level and to make it really special."
Passengers in business class will receive a reusable amenity kit designed as a tote bag for onward travel, including a Dr.PAWPAW moisturizing balm. First-class kits launched in early October on all British Airways outbound long-haul flights; they come in blue or cream and hold skincare from Wildsmith, among it a face mist, hand and body lotion, ceramide multi-balm, lip balm and face cream. The kit also carries peppermints, chips, chocolate bars and hydration sachets from ViDrate.
The cabin refit adds storage space, informed by customer feedback, along with "dedicated dwell areas" meant to encourage passengers to move freely around the aircraft. There will be self-serve drinks and snacks such as popcorn and chips, plus new bedding and pillows. Economy passengers get upgraded bedding and pillows with more filling than before, and blankets designed for added warmth and comfort.
British Airways now says the retrofitted A380 is expected to debut "in the coming months," after the first-class suites' original mid-2026 date slipped; the launch could drift into next year.
