Avira Resources (ASX:AVW) begins site prep for 4,500m RC drill program at Mt Cattlin, targeting high-grade gold extensions. Maiden MRE due Q4 2026.
Alpha Score of 47 reflects weak overall profile with moderate momentum, poor value, weak quality, weak sentiment.
Avira Resources (ASX:AVW) is moving from planning to execution at the Mt Cattlin gold project in Western Australia. Site preparation is now underway for an inaugural 4,500-metre RC drilling program targeting four prospects. The stock closed up 22.2% at 1.1¢, giving the company a market cap of $4.725 million.
The program has been designed to test shallow extensions to the high-grade Sirdar and Maori Queen deposits while providing the first modern systematic RC drilling at Ellendale and Plantagenet. All four prospects lie within the Ravensthorpe Greenstone Belt of the Yilgarn Craton, about 430 km south-east of Perth.
Current on-site activities include drill pad preparation, surveying, drill hole mark-out, support infrastructure groundworks and site access preparation. Avira has also executed an RC drilling contract with Drill Safe Services, a contractor with recent experience on programs for Rox Resources (ASX:RXL) and Astral Resources (ASX:AAR). Mobilisation is imminent, with drilling expected to commence in the near term.
The primary target is shallow extensions to veins that have already produced high-grade gold. Historical drilling at Sirdar returned exceptional intersections:
Historical production from the two deposits totals 23,006 tonnes at 24.56 g/t. The new RC program will test along strike and at depth to confirm continuity and grade.
Neither prospect has been systematically drill-tested with RC methods. The current campaign is the first modern evaluation of these zones. Any significant intersection here would expand the project's mineralised footprint beyond the known workings.
The simple read is obvious: grades above 100 g/t are rare and warrant attention. The better market read requires caution. Narrow high-grade hits in historical drilling often come from selective sampling of vein structures. Whether those grades extend into a resource depends on vein geometry, dip continuity and drill orientation.
Key insight for traders: Focus on grade-thickness products across multiple closely spaced holes. A single bonanza intercept does not make a mine. Consistent 5 g/t over 10 metres across several sections is more valuable than one hit of 130 g/t over 1 metre.
Avira's program will test this. The drill spacing and orientation determine whether historical shoots remain open or represent isolated pods. Watch for the ratio of intercepts that meet or exceed historical averages.
Drill Safe Services is a known quantity in WA goldfields. That reduces one operational variable. Two risks remain:
Execution risk is material for a micro-cap explorer with a $4.7 million market cap. A one-month delay in mobilisation directly affects when the market gets data.
The drilling program has been structured to generate data that feeds directly into Avira's maiden MRE, targeted for Q4 2026. That timeline gives the company about 12 months to complete the RC program, receive assays, model the deposit and compile the estimate. Aggressive but achievable if drilling begins within weeks and assays flow without interruption.
The immediate trigger is confirmation that RC drilling has physically commenced. Avira has not given a hard date, only that mobilisation is imminent and drilling is expected in the near term. Once drilling starts, the market will watch for assay turnaround times. First results could land by mid-2025 if drilling begins within the next few weeks.
For a stock at 1.1¢, every drill update carries outsized weight. Southern Company (SO) holds an Alpha Score of 47/100 (Mixed) in the utilities sector. AVW operates at a very different scale – a micro-cap explorer with a binary catalyst schedule. Traders should size positions accordingly, with clear stops and an eye on any news flow regarding mobilisation.

The next few weeks will determine whether Avira can convert historical high-grade hits into a modern resource. The drill bit will provide the answer.
