Avnet and Weston Robot released an autonomous inspection platform for factories, energy facilities and logistics hubs, the companies said Wednesday. The robot runs on AMD Ryzen AI Embedded processors and can detect anomalies, monitor PPE compliance and identify thermal hotspots without a cloud connection.
Powered by AMD's embedded chips, the platform delivers up to 50 TOPS of AI performance on the device, enabling low-latency inference where cellular or satellite links are unreliable. The robot uses 3D LiDAR simultaneous localization and mapping to navigate GPS-denied environments, a common condition in tunnels, warehouses and ports.
Arthur Chung, Avnet's vice president for sales and supplier management in Asia, said in a statement that Physical AI represents "the next evolution of artificial intelligence" and that the collaboration helps organizations "scale industrial intelligence, strengthen safety and improve operational resilience."
Weston Robot Chief Scientist Dr. Zhang Yanliang said many inspection processes remain "manual, reactive and resource-intensive" and that combining robotics, AI and edge computing allows continuous monitoring of critical infrastructure.
