Avendus Group appointed Karan Sharma as managing director and head of investment banking, the firm said. Sharma, a 15-year veteran who built the digital and technology practice, will lead the business's strategic direction and growth.
The transition allows co-founder Gaurav Deepak to focus on broader strategic priorities and client engagement as Avendus enters its next phase, the firm said. Deepak had previously held the investment banking head role since co-founding the firm.
Sharma joined Avendus 15 years ago and helped build the digital and technology practice from scratch, advising on several technology deals in India. His promotion signals a focus on continuity in that sector.
Avendus is majority-owned by Mizuho Securities, the Japanese banking group. Mizuho acquired a majority stake in 2022 as part of a push to expand its investment banking footprint in India. The firm has advised on a number of mid-market technology and digital infrastructure transactions.
Sharma steps into the role immediately. Avendus declined to comment on further team changes.
