MANILA, Philippines – The remains of Ateneo Blue Eagle basketball prospect Rene Baterbonia have been returned to his hometown, the university said Saturday.
Ateneo de Manila University said Baterbonia's body was brought to Talacogan, Agusan del Sur, where he lies in state with his family and community. Burial is set for Wednesday, June 24.
"Ateneo de Manila is working closely with Ateneo de Davao, coordinated the arrangements for Bobet's return home and continues to accompany the Baterbonia family during this time," the university said.
"Discussions are ongoing on the support that may be most helpful to the family, including educational assistance for Bobet's six siblings, who are expected to relocate to Davao and enroll at Ateneo de Davao University under scholarship support," they added.
Baterbonia died along with Divine Adili in a training session in Aurora on June 8.
