The death toll from Assam's floods climbed to 47 after six more people died, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority reported. More than 653,000 people across 11 districts are affected in the current wave.
ASDMA earlier Thursday said 10 people had died in the prior 24 hours, including four children. Three of the deaths were in Sivasagar district, three in Jorhat, two in Charaideo and one each in Dhemaji and Karbi Anglong. Six people – three men and three women – remain missing.
Sivasagar is the worst-hit district with 392,195 people affected. Charaideo has 110,755, Jorhat 97,690, Golaghat 25,591 and Dibrugarh 13,390. A total of 939 villages across 40 revenue circles are still under water.
