Sandeep Dutta, president of AWS India and South Asia, said Indian institutions are at an inflection point in their AI journey and ready to use frontier AI at scale. "With Anthropic's Claude now available for in-country inference through Amazon Bedrock, they can deploy it on the same trusted infrastructure they already use for their most critical workloads," Dutta said.
Anthropic has been expanding its India presence since opening its Bengaluru office in February. Large enterprises deploying Claude across their organisations include Axis Bank, National Payments Corporation of India, IndusInd Bank, and Godrej Industries. The company said it is building a growing local team with strong performance in Indian languages.
The in-country inference launch follows Anthropic's broader push into regulated markets where data residency is a precondition for adoption. For Indian financial institutions already running on AWS, the change removes a compliance barrier that had kept Claude in pilot phases rather than production systems.
Anthropic did not specify a precise activation date for the service, saying only that availability would roll out in the coming weeks.
