Andrés Obando Named Head of Underwriting at Mandarin Re

Mandarin Re, a Malaysia-based reinsurer, promoted Andrés Obando to head of underwriting.

Obando joined the company in 2023 as an underwriter and later served as senior underwriter and head of underwriting for the Americas and African division. Before Mandarin Re, he was commercial manager of reinsurance at International Traders Insurance Co. and a director at Seguros Beta. He spent nearly a decade at Munich Re in roles including facultative property underwriter and property underwriter.

The reinsurer said in a statement that Obando has shown "strong technical expertise, sound underwriting judgment, and a clear commitment to portfolio quality and long-term value."

The appointment puts Obando in charge of Mandarin Re's underwriting operations globally.
