Ammunic Systems pivots to loitering munitions and naval fuses, targets SE Asia and Middle East exports after expanding production capacity.
Ammunic Systems, a defence R&D startup founded in September 2024, is shifting its product focus to loitering munitions and naval electronic fusing systems. The company holds an order book of ₹15 crore and plans to expand into Southeast Asia and the Middle East, founder Priyanka Singhal told BusinessLine.
Singhal said the company's current emphasis is on its Skanda loitering munition system and gravity-drop bombs. Ammunic is also moving into naval warfare technologies, an area she described as underserved. The company filed a patent for an advanced electronic fusing system designed to replace imported mechanical fuses used in underwater operations.
On international expansion, Singhal said Southeast Asia and the Middle East offer the most immediate opportunities. Customers there are receptive to cost-effective defence tech and technology transfer partnerships, similar to India's defence ecosystem. Europe and the US prefer co-development models given their mature capabilities, she said.
Ammunic previously focused only on the Indian market because production capacity was limited. Singhal said the company declined export opportunities in the past. Over the past six to seven months, the startup expanded production capabilities, which now allows it to serve both domestic and international markets.
The company raised $1.1 million in a seed round co-led by India Accelerator and its venture arm Finvolve. It plans a second funding round within four to five months. The proceeds will scale existing products and develop new indigenous defence technologies.
The shift to loitering munitions places Ammunic in a segment where demand has grown after their heavy use in recent conflicts. The patent for naval fusing targets a niche that currently relies on imported components. The upcoming funding round will test whether investors see enough demand beyond Ammunic's domestic base. Singhal said the focus remains on scaling production and securing orders from both Indian and overseas customers.
