Drilling at Brunswick South returns 3.1m at 10.1 g/t gold and 1.8% antimony. Alkane starts development this quarter, with the deposit 200m from existing access.
Alkane Resources has extended the high-grade gold trend at its Brunswick South deposit in central Victoria, with drilling results showing pockets of strong gold endowment and a significant quantity of antimony. The deposit sits 400 metres south of the previously mined Brunswick vein and 200 metres from planned underground access at the company's Costerfield operation.
Managing Director Nic Earner said the results from extension and infill drilling over the past year have been highly encouraging. "This newly defined deposit contains pockets of high gold endowment and a significant quantity of antimony," he said. "Excitingly Brunswick South can be brought online without extensive access requirements. It is situated 200 metres from existing development."
Alkane is starting development toward Brunswick South this quarter and plans to establish it as a primary production source for Costerfield. The company has been mining the Costerfield gold-antimony system since the 1860s. Historical production concentrated in two main phases between 1861 and 1924, plus a short-lived attempt in the 1930s.
The latest drill results include intercepts such as 3.1 metres at 10.1 grams per tonne gold and 1.8% antimony, and 2.2 metres at 7.9 g/t gold with 2.1% antimony. The company reports estimated true widths of the veining. The results extend known mineralization along strike and at depth, improving confidence in the deposit's resource base.
Antimony is used in flame retardants, lead-acid batteries, and military applications including ammunition and infrared sensors. China dominates global antimony production. Western miners have been developing alternative sources, and Alkane's Costerfield operation already produces both gold and antimony concentrate. The antimony grades at Brunswick South could add a strategic Western supply of the critical mineral.
The Brunswick South deposit is the southernmost of several lodes along a three-kilometre corridor at Costerfield. Alkane expects the proximity to existing development to reduce both capital costs and the time to first production. The company's shares trade on the ASX, TSX, and OTCQX markets.
