The Osten & Victor Alberta Tennis Centre will add eight indoor courts, boosting year-round access by 62%, as it marks a decade of community impact in Calgary.
The Osten & Victor Alberta Tennis Centre in Calgary announced plans to add eight indoor courts and a new reception building with 89 parking stalls. The expansion would increase year-round court access by 62%, the centre said Friday.
The project still needs approvals. The proposal marks the centre's biggest growth push since it opened in 2016. A future phase would add seasonal outdoor courts, with details to be shaped by community engagement.
The centre has served hundreds of thousands of Calgarians over the past decade. It provided more than 71,000 hours of annual court access and introduced over 70,000 children to tennis through school programs. It also partnered with over 30 community organizations and hosted national and international events.
"Our vision has always been to create the best community-based tennis development centre in North America while ensuring tennis remains accessible, welcoming and affordable for everyone," said Danny Da Costa, CEO of the centre.
Tennis Canada CEO Gavin Ziv said the expansion aligns with the sport's growth across the country. "Tennis has seen incredible growth over the last few years, and it is our continued mission to expand access to the game for all Canadians."
The expansion comes as demand for court time and programming has risen. The centre's 10-year anniversary coincides with a broader push to make tennis more accessible in Canada.
The next step is the development approval process and community consultations with the Acadia Community Association.
