Platform data from Automateed covers 77,000+ books across 216 countries. Self-help leads categories at 10.8%, with emerging markets driving a quarter of output. Fiction ranks behind faith, health, and business.
Automateed, an AI ebook generator, released internal data covering more than 77,000 books created on its platform across 216 countries. The company published these findings in a press release Monday, offering a look at what users are actually writing with AI tools.
Self-help guides dominate the platform's output. Self-Help & Personal Development is the number one category at 10.8% of the roughly 63,000 titles categorized by the platform's AI. Health & Fitness came second at 9.6%, followed by Business & Entrepreneurship at 7.2%. Fiction and novels together accounted for just over 5% of titles. Religion & Spirituality (6.1%) and Psychology & Mental Health (5.5%) both outranked Fiction and Marketing as categories.
Standard ebooks make up 90% of all output. Novels account for 5.4%, illustrated storybooks for 2.9%, and coloring books for 1.7%.
"People assume AI writing tools are mostly used for fiction experiments. Our data shows the opposite," said Stefan Mitrovic, founder of Automateed. "Users are building practical non-fiction: guides on health, money, faith, and personal growth."
The geography of creation is worth noting. The United States leads with 17.4% of all books generated. India is second at 10.2%, followed by Brazil (7.5%), Nigeria (5.1%), and Indonesia (4.1%). Together, those four emerging markets accounted for more than a quarter of all books created – suggesting AI publishing tools lower barriers fastest outside developed Western markets.
Regional patterns emerged. Indonesia over-indexes in Education & Academic titles. Brazil produces a disproportionate share of Cooking & Recipes ebooks. The United Kingdom accounts for over a third of all Cybersecurity & IT titles generated on the platform.
The data was drawn from 77,636 books created by users with IP-based geolocation; about 6% of books had unknown location. Titles were classified using AI into more than 40 categories. Automateed, founded by Mitrovic, offers features like cover generation, formatting for Amazon KDP, and support for multiple book types.
Automateed falls in the consumer tech segment of the AI tools market, competing with services like Jasper and Copy.ai, though it focuses specifically on book-length output rather than marketing copy.
For anyone tracking where AI writing tools actually land in practice, the data makes one point clear: the use case is practical, not literary. Self-publishers appear to be using these tools to produce reference content, not fiction.
