AGC Biologics partners with Pyramid Pharma Services for U.S. sterile fill-finish, offering drug developers a single contract from drug substance to packaged product and cutting tariff exposure.
AGC Biologics has signed a partnership with Pyramid Pharma Services to offer sterile fill-finish in the United States. The arrangement gives drug developers a single contract covering drug substance development through packaged product, including vials, pre-filled syringes, cartridges, device assembly, labeling, and secondary packaging for clinical programs.
Fill-finish is the step where drug substance goes into vials or syringes and gets sterilised. Capacity crunches at this stage have delayed clinical timelines for years. Most late-stage fill-finish capacity sits in Europe. AGC already runs European lines through its existing network. The new U.S. option lets clients keep the whole chain domestic, cutting exposure to import duties and customs delays.
Christoph Winterhalter, AGC's chief business officer, said the deal responds to customer demand for a U.S.-based pathway. "By combining our experience in mammalian and microbial manufacturing with a partner that has a demonstrated commitment to reliable sterile dose delivery, we offer an ideal pathway for developers to bring their products to patients through a streamlined, integrated supply chain via a single contract with AGC Biologics," he said.
Pyramid brings nearly four decades of sterile injectable experience, including 26 years of GMP manufacturing and over a decade of commercial supply. The company handles complex formulations, lyophilization, and scalable technology transfer. Dirk Lange, Pyramid's CEO, said the goal is to "simplify development pathways, reduce risk, and accelerate timelines."
Neither side disclosed financial terms. The partnership covers clinical programs for now. AGC's Seattle site, already a major biologics manufacturing hub, anchors the integrated offering. For a drug developer manufacturing a biologic in Europe and shipping vials to the U.S., the tariff and logistics costs vanish when everything sits in one U.S. location.
The deal deepens AGC's U.S. footprint and gives it a fill-finish answer to a question more clients are asking: can you keep the whole chain inside one country?
