Academy Sports and Outdoors is adding Instacart to its delivery network, giving shoppers another way to get gear the same day without paying a premium over in-store prices.

Chad Fox, Academy's chief customer officer, said the Instacart partnership gives customers “another convenient way to shop Academy’s broad assortment at the same great prices.” The company already runs same-day deliveries through Uber Eats, a deal it announced in June.
The delivery push comes as Academy plots a bigger physical footprint. CEO Steve Lawrence told analysts in April the chain plans to open 125 stores over the next five years. Most will go into markets where Academy already operates, but about a fifth will be in new territory, he said.
Academy reported a strong first quarter. Net sales rose 6.7% to $1.4 billion, comparable sales climbed 2.9%, and net income jumped 14.3% to $52.7 million.
Instacart has been adding non-grocery retailers to its platform. Last month, Tractor Supply signed on for same-day deliveries from its more than 2,400 stores.
