Aadhaar biometric update for children: 2 crore completed, free until September 2026

The Unique Identification Authority of India has completed more than 2 crore mandatory biometric updates for school children, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said in a release. The drive, launched in September 2025, covered more than 1.56 lakh schools across the country.
UIDAI worked with state and union territory education departments to set up biometric update camps at schools. The camps let children add fingerprints, iris scans, and a photograph to their Aadhaar records.
Children under five are enrolled using only demographic details and a photo. Their biometrics are not captured at that stage. As they grow, those details need to be collected and refreshed. The mandatory biometric update, or MBU, does exactly that.
