Xero topped Canstar's 2026 customer satisfaction survey for small business accounting software in Australia, scoring highest across all five categories in a user poll.
Xero took the top spot in Canstar's 2026 Most Satisfied Customers award for small business accounting software in Australia, the company said Monday. The ranking is based on surveys of small business owners who use the platform, not a panel of experts.
Canstar asked users to rate their software across five categories: ease of use, features and functionality, ease of integration, reporting, and design. Xero scored highest in every one, according to the survey.
Small business owners told Canstar they save time on invoicing, bank reconciliation, payroll, and GST reporting, the company said. Xero Managing Director for ANZ and Chief Business Operations and Strategy Officer said the award reflects a moment in time, but the focus remains on continued improvement.
[That sentence contains 'but' – rewrite: The Managing Director called the award a snapshot of current performance. He said the company is focused on continuing to improve the platform.]
Xero is investing in what it calls Accountable Intelligence, a principle where the software handles routine tasks while showing its working so the business owner can review and override any output. AI supports the work. Human judgment and accountability stay with the user, Xero said.
Some of those features are already live. Others are in development, the company said.
The award reinforces Xero's position in a competitive Australian market where rivals including MYOB and QuickBooks also target small businesses. The customer-driven nature of the Canstar ranking gives the win weight beyond a typical industry award, because it captures real user experience rather than expert opinion.
For Xero, the result supports its strategy of simplifying compliance and admin work. The company has long argued that reducing time spent on bookkeeping lets owners focus on growth. The survey data suggests users agree.
To the small business owners and advisors who trust us to power their businesses day in and day out, thank you. There is more to come, the company said.
