Wipro Consumer Care acquires Philippines' S Brands, adding 45% market share hair conditioner brand. Revenue from Philippines to exceed ₹1,000 crore, CEO says.
Alpha Score of 46 reflects weak overall profile with weak momentum, moderate value, moderate quality, moderate sentiment.
Wipro Consumer Care International is acquiring Philippines-based S Brands Consumer Care Inc, the company announced Tuesday. The deal, the 16th acquisition globally for the unit and its second in the Philippines, adds a portfolio of personal care brands to a business that ended its last fiscal year with ₹10,800 crore in revenue.
Kumar Chander, CEO of Wipro Consumer Care & Lighting and managing director of Wipro Enterprises, said the purchase makes the Philippines the company's third-largest market outside India, after Malaysia and China. Revenue from the Philippines will exceed ₹1,000 crore, he said. The company did not disclose the price.
S Brands sells KERATINplus, a hair conditioner brand that holds 45% of its segment in the Philippines, Chander said. The portfolio also includes AlcoPlus rubbing alcohol, DeoPlus deodorant, and Fiona Cologne, a teens' fragrance. The acquisition adds categories – rubbing alcohol, deodorants, and fragrances – where Wipro sees room to grow. Chander said the company hopes to take lessons from the Philippines hair-conditioning category to other Asian markets.
Wipro's consumer care and lighting business ended FY26 with revenue of ₹10,800 crore, up 9.3% from the prior year, Anita Zutshi, CFO of Wipro Enterprises, said. Growth accelerated in the second half: 12.7% in the third quarter and 10.1% in the fourth. In the June quarter of FY27, the unit posted 17.4% consolidated growth, Chander said, with the India business alone rising 15.1%.
Asked about acquisitions in India, Zutshi said the company is always looking, any deal must meet its capital-allocation standards. "It needs to be at the right valuation, in line with our disciplined approach to capital allocation," she said. "It also needs to be margin accretive and enable us to provide scale in a particular category or geography."
Chander said the company has taken price hikes in some categories and focused on supply-chain agility to manage disruptions from the West Asia conflict. On the outlook, he said the El Nino impact on monsoons is a factor for rural demand, urban demand will not be affected. Quick commerce, he added, is accelerating premiumisation in India.
Wipro's broader technology services business carries an Alpha Score of 46 out of 100 on AlphaScala, reflecting mixed fundamentals. The consumer care unit, however, is a separate operating segment within Wipro Enterprises.
