Wintrust Financial (WTFC) fell 3.59% after Brean Capital downgraded the stock to Neutral from Buy on valuation grounds.
The bank holding company's shares have climbed 12% year-to-date, outpacing the broader regional banking index, Brean analyst Peter Winter said. The current price, at roughly 12.5 times estimated 2026 earnings, leaves limited upside from here, Winter wrote in a note.
Wintrust operates across Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana with roughly $60 billion in assets. The downgrade follows a period of sustained outperformance: the stock has gained about 30% over the past 12 months, more than double the return of the S&P 500 over the same stretch.
Winter maintained his $140 price target, implying about 2% downside from Tuesday's close. The stock has traded above that level since late February.
The downgrade is the first sell-side rating change for Wintrust in six months. The stock has three Buy ratings, four Holds and no Sells, according to Bloomberg data.
