Telegram Gram Wallet to Reach 1B Users This Summer

Telegram will roll out a native non-custodial Gram wallet this summer, founder Pavel Durov said Wednesday. The wallet lets users send cryptocurrency instantly without fees and targets the platform's more than 1 billion monthly active users. Durov called it "the largest rollout of a non-custodial crypto wallet in human history."

The announcement follows The Open Network's decision to rename its native token from Toncoin to Gram, reviving the name from Telegram's 2018 white paper. Telegram has backed the TON ecosystem since a 2020 SEC settlement forced it to abandon its own blockchain project.

Telegram has not disclosed a firm launch date or additional technical details for the wallet. The non-custodial design puts private key control in users' hands, a structure that avoids centralized custody risk but requires personal security precautions.
