Tarsus Pharma's iRenix acquisition adds a device for Demodex blepharitis to complement Xdemvy. The slide deck outlines the strategy but leaves financial terms and launch timing for the next earnings call.
Tarsus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. currently carries an Alpha Score of n/a, giving AlphaScala's model a neutral read on the setup.
Tarsus Pharmaceuticals released a slide deck Thursday tied to its acquisition of iRenix Medical, a private company developing a device for Demodex blepharitis, the same eyelid-mite condition Tarsus already treats with its approved drug Xdemvy.
The presentation, filed with the SEC, walks through the strategic logic: iRenix's device targets the mechanical removal of Demodex mites and their debris, while Xdemvy attacks the mites pharmaceutically. Tarsus sees the combination as a way to cover more of the treatment pathway – drug for active infestation, device for maintenance or for patients who prefer a non-pharmaceutical option.
Financial terms were not disclosed in the slides. Tarsus said the deal closed in the second quarter and that iRenix will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary. The company did not provide revenue guidance for the device or update its Xdemvy sales forecast.
The slide deck emphasizes that Demodex blepharitis is underdiagnosed and that most cases go untreated. Tarsus has been building a direct-to-consumer marketing push for Xdemvy, and the iRenix device gives the sales force a second product to pitch to the same ophthalmologists and optometrists.
Tarsus shares have rallied this year on Xdemvy prescription growth. The iRenix acquisition adds a device platform but also introduces manufacturing and reimbursement risk that the drug business does not carry. The company said it will provide more detail on the integration timeline and device launch plans on its next earnings call, which has not yet been scheduled.
The slideshow is available on the SEC's EDGAR system under Tarsus's filings for July 9.
