StrikePoint Gold buys Newmont's Northumberland gold deposit in Nevada for $70M upfront plus contingent payments. The deposit hosts 2.86M oz indicated gold-equivalent. A C$140M bought deal financing led by Canaccord Genuity backs the acquisition.
StrikePoint Gold agreed to buy the Northumberland gold project in Nevada's Walker Lane from Newmont Corp. for $70 million in cash upfront, plus two future contingent payments of $25 million each. The first deferred payment comes due 120 days after a feasibility study is completed; the second 120 days after certain commercial production targets are hit.
The project is a past-producing deposit sitting largely on private land. StrikePoint published an initial mineral resource estimate of 2.86 million ounces gold-equivalent in the indicated category and 1.57 million ounces inferred. The company said the land package holds additional exploration targets, both near-pit and regionally.
To fund the acquisition, StrikePoint arranged a C$140 million bought deal financing led by Canaccord Genuity. The transaction is expected to close around Sept. 30, 2026, subject to customary conditions.
CEO Michael Allen called the deal "transformational" for StrikePoint and said the company would focus on advancing exploration and development at Northumberland. He also announced that Alan Pangbourne will join the board as chairman upon closing. Pangbourne previously served as CEO of Guyana Goldfields, COO of SSR Mining, and held senior roles at Kinross Gold and BHP Billiton. He currently sits on the board of OceanaGold and chairs its technical committee.
Newmont, which posted an Alpha Score of 79 in AlphaScala's latest ranking, has been shedding non-core assets as it focuses on its top-tier operations. The Northumberland sale follows a pattern of mid-tier and junior developers picking up deposits that the majors no longer prioritize.
The deposit sits in the Walker Lane trend, a gold-producing belt that has drawn renewed interest from explorers. StrikePoint's private-land position could shorten the permitting timeline compared with claims on federal land.
