Senate Democrats Seek Probe Into Trump's $500M UAE Crypto Deal

A group of Democratic senators is pushing for congressional hearings into a $500 million investment that gave an Abu Dhabi royal entity a 49% stake in World Liberty Financial, the crypto platform linked to President Donald Trump. The stake was acquired in January 2025, months before the administration closed a separate arms and chips agreement with the United Arab Emirates.

In a letter to the chairmen of the Senate Banking and Foreign Relations committees, the senators argue the timing raises potential conflicts of interest. They are demanding testimony from administration officials and full disclosure of any communications between the White House and World Liberty Financial. The letter, signed by Senator Elizabeth Warren and four other Democrats, says the arrangement may violate the Constitution's Emoluments Clause if the trade deal was conditioned on the crypto investment.

World Liberty Financial launched in 2024 as a decentralized finance platform. The Abu Dhabi stake came through an investment vehicle linked to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, according to the senators. The arms and chips deal covers sales of advanced technology, including semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
