Robinhood Chain's mainnet goes live. Meme coin CashCat surges 1,700% in 24 hours. CEO Tenev says the chain works for memes too. Trader compares it to Solana's early days.
Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ: HOOD) launched the public mainnet of Robinhood Chain, a layer-2 blockchain built for real-world assets and tokenized stocks. The first burst of traction came from a different corner: meme coin speculation.
CEO Vlad Tenev posted on X on July 8: "While we're building Robinhood chain to be the best chain for RWA … it works great for memes too."
CashCat, the first major meme coin on the new chain, rallied more than 1,700% in 24 hours. Content creator Dan Fuentes highlighted the move in a podcast on the same day. The token's name references "CashCat," an early name associated with Robinhood before the company adopted its current brand. Market reports say the project has no official affiliation with the exchange.
The pattern is familiar. New chains often attract early liquidity through meme coins before broader applications gain traction. Veteran trader Unipcs said on X on July 9 that Robinhood Chain resembles Solana's (CRYPTO: SOL) early ecosystem. He cited rapid meme coin-driven on-chain growth, engaged leadership, and a wave of new tokens quickly reaching significant valuations. The trader expects many investors to dismiss it initially and plans to stay heavily involved in search of high-upside early opportunities.
Unipcs recalled Solana's early projects like MYRO and SILLY before billion-dollar winners such as Dogwifcat (CRYPTO: WIF), Popcat (CRYPTO: POPCAT) and Fartcoin (CRYPTO: FARTCOIN) emerged.
Robinhood's Alpha Score sits at 55/100, labeled Moderate, in the Financials sector. The stock page is available at HOOD stock page.
The question for traders is whether Robinhood Chain can replicate Solana's trajectory or whether the meme coin burst fades before real-world asset adoption takes hold. The next few weeks will show whether CashCat was a one-off or the start of a broader ecosystem.
