Redstone Resources (ASX: RDS) is pushing ahead with access talks with traditional owners to drill the Saturn copper-nickel-cobalt-platinum group elements (PGE) project in Western Australia's West Musgrave region.
The project covers 330 square kilometres of the Giles Intrusive Complex, a geological target that hosts BHP Group's (ASX: BHP) Nebo Babel copper-nickel-cobalt-PGE deposit and Terra Metals' (ASX: TM1) Dante PGE Reef discovery. Saturn sits 10 kilometres from Redstone's flagship West Musgrave project, which contains the high-grade Tollu copper deposit.
Redstone has owned Saturn since 2008. Historical exploration was limited to the edges of a magnetic intrusive complex striking east-northeast along the southern edge of the tenure. That work found complex magmatic boundaries with multiple intrusions, including fractionated magnetite-bearing layered intrusions rich in reef-style PGE mineralisation. It generated encouraging discoveries at Halleys, Halleys NW and Last Frontier.
The thickness and grades of sulphide mineralisation at those targets give Redstone confidence the project could host one or more significant sulphide mineralising systems, the company said.
Chair Richard Homsany called Saturn an "exciting exploration opportunity."
"Despite only limited historical exploration, the project has already generated several encouraging mineralised targets, which highlight the broader prospectivity of the tenure for PGE Reef and Cu-Ni-Co-PGE style deposits," he said.
Redstone is also preparing a reverse circulation drilling program at West Musgrave to test priority magnetic targets for copper-nickel-cobalt systems, including the EM5, East and West Cigar and Hiding Maggie targets in the northeast corridor of Tollu.
Separately, the company is planning exploration at a package of WA assets acquired last month from private explorer Hurricane Prospecting. Those include the Mt Cauden (gold-lithium), Twin Hills (gold), Rudall East (copper-gold-base metals) and Cockatoo Rocks (lithium-caesium-tantalum pegmatite) projects.
