MetaMask on Thursday launched Agent Wallet, a self-custodial product that gives AI agents limited authority to execute on-chain transactions. The wallet includes a $10,000 monthly loss protection policy for qualifying transactions.
The wallet targets traders and developers who run AI agents to monitor markets and execute strategies. Supported activities include token swaps, perpetual futures, prediction market positions and liquidity provisioning. Agent Wallet works with Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenClaw, Hermes and OpenCode, MetaMask said. Users can deploy agents across Hyperliquid and Ethereum Virtual Machine networks.
Unlike systems that give an AI model unrestricted access, Agent Wallet requires users to set rules before funding the account. Rules include daily spending limits and approved protocols. Users can also set risk preferences. The agent can act. It acts inside the user's boundaries, MetaMask said.
The wallet has two operating modes. Guard Mode, the default, pauses transactions that exceed spending limits or interact with unapproved protocols. Users approve or reject through MetaMask Mobile or an email link. Beast Mode reduces interruptions for experienced traders. It still requires human authorization for potentially malicious transactions.
Agent Wallet also uses gas abstraction. Agents can transfer or swap tokens without holding the network's native asset for fees. MetaMask settles the fee in the token being moved. Transactions pass through simulation and threat scanning. Smart Transactions protection adds MEV risk safeguards before reaching the blockchain.
Transactions that clear these checks may qualify for up to $10,000 in Transaction Protection coverage per month if they still result in a loss. The protection is subject to eligibility requirements. It does not cover every trading loss or failed strategy. Unsupported transactions are not covered.
The launch places MetaMask in competition with other crypto companies. Coinbase introduced Agentic Wallets in February, giving AI systems programmable tools with guardrails. MoonPay has expanded MoonAgents, including a Telegram-based interface for managing crypto through natural-language commands.
Agent Wallet extends MetaMask's move beyond a standard browser wallet. In June, the company launched Money Account, a self-custodial account built around mUSD that combines DeFi yield, trading and card spending.
MetaMask has not introduced a native token alongside Agent Wallet. The wallet is available for download starting Thursday.
