Kraken holds top spot in spot and perpetual liquidity on DefiLlama's MiCA dashboard, with $400M+ spot depth. Coinbase and Crypto.com trail as EU rules reshape competition.
Kraken tops MiCA-regulated exchanges in liquidity, according to DefiLlama's live dashboard. The data, cited by Wu Blockchain and confirmed by crypto.news, showed Kraken with more than $400 million in spot liquidity and over $220 million in perpetual liquidity. That placed it ahead of every other regulated venue.
Coinbase held second place with $305 million in spot liquidity and $167 million in perpetual liquidity. Crypto.com came third with roughly $130 million in spot depth. Bitstamp and Bybit each showed about $50 million in spot liquidity. OKX and Gate registered smaller pools. Backpack had even less.
The gap matters for execution. A deeper order book reduces slippage on larger trades. That gives Kraken an edge for institutional flows and active retail traders who move volume. Market coverage – the number of trading pairs – also favors Kraken, which listed 1,704 markets. Coinbase had 1,074, Crypto.com had 883.
For traders moving Bitcoin or Ethereum, the depth advantage is most visible in perpetual contracts, where Kraken's $220 million dwarfs competitors' pools.
The liquidity rankings come as the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation, or MiCA, took full effect on July 1. All crypto platforms serving EU users must now hold a MiCA license. Kraken secured its license from the Central Bank of Ireland in June 2025. Coinbase operates its European hub from Luxembourg under a MiCA license. OKX expanded across 28 EEA markets through its Malta approval.
With the regulatory floor in place, competition is shifting from compliance to execution quality. Exchanges with thin order books risk losing flow to venues with tighter spreads. For traders, choosing a regulated exchange now means weighing liquidity differences directly.

The next quarters will test whether Coinbase can close the liquidity gap or whether Kraken extends its lead. Crypto.com's growth in spot depth and market coverage may also challenge the top two. The data from DefiLlama's MiCA dashboard, updated continuously, will show the shifts.
