Kraken's 27 August withdrawal deadline leaves 16 of 21 delisted tokens with no alternative exchange. Holders must self-custody or face forced liquidation at low prices.
Anybody holding one of the 21 tokens Kraken is removing from trading has until 27 August 2026, 14:00 UTC to withdraw. After that, withdrawals close, and between 1 and 5 September the exchange sells remaining balances itself. The immediate question is where to send the tokens. An analysis by cryptoticker.io on 21 August checked each of those assets against five European venues – Bitvavo, Coinbase, Bitpanda, Bitstamp and Bitfinex. For 16 of the 21, none of those exchanges had an enabled deposit or trading status. The tokens are AURA, BIT, BSX, GARI, K, KET, KINTO, LOBO, MOON, MV, RAIIN, RHEA, SDN, SPICE, TEA and TEER.
The timeline is fixed. Kraken announced the delisting on 14 May and switched off deposits and trading on 29 May. Since then only withdrawals have been possible. Once that door closes on 27 August, any remaining balance goes into an automatic disposal between 1 and 5 September. The exchange itself warns in its delisting notice that several of these assets now have only limited or inactive markets, and that sale proceeds may fall well below reference prices – in individual cases close to zero.
Four tokens had exactly one possible destination: BOND, FARM, NYM and SAROS, all on Coinbase. One token, SPC, had two: Coinbase and Bitfinex. The other 16 had none. The concentration is heavy. Anybody hoping to move those assets elsewhere is relying on a single provider for four of them, and on none for the rest. If that provider does not support the network or blocks deposits from your country, only a personal wallet remains.
Self-custody is the only way to keep those 16 tokens beyond the deadline. Before initiating a transfer, three things matter: does your wallet support the network the token is on; do you have the correct contract address entered; and do you have enough of the network's native currency to pay transaction fees. The recovery phrase should be secured before the transfer, not after.
One token on the list, TEER, cannot be saved at all. Kraken states in its notice that the project has ceased operations and transactions on the chain no longer go through. For TEER holders, neither a transfer to another exchange nor a withdrawal into a personal wallet is possible. The exchange's settlement process will handle the balance.
The forced liquidation itself creates a taxable event for German holders. A disposal occurs even though the holder did not trigger it. The proceeds depend on the order book at the moment of sale. The exchange itself says prices could be minimal if liquidity is missing. Anyone who wants to avoid that should sell or withdraw before 27 August.
The deadline is 14:00 UTC, which is 16:00 in German summer time. Starting a withdrawal the day before may not leave enough time for verification steps and network confirmations. A buffer of several days is advisable.
