India has become Argentina's sixth-largest economic partner, with bilateral trade reaching nearly $6 billion in 2025, Ambassador Mariano Caucino said at the 17th Agriculture Leadership Summit.
Speaking through a press release, Caucino placed India behind only the United States, China, the European Union, Brazil and Chile. The envoy described the relationship as growing in line with India's rising global status.
Argentina became India's top supplier of edible oils last year, Caucino said. He also pointed to the opening of a consulate in Mumbai, the creation of an agricultural attaché office, and the elevation of ties to a Strategic Partnership as recent milestones.
The two countries established diplomatic relations in 1950, when Argentina opened its embassy in New Delhi. Argentina was among the first Latin American nations to have a resident ambassador in India.
Caucino said the convergence of national interests is driven by what he called the objective complementarity linking the two economies. He cited critical minerals and energy alongside agriculture as sectors where Argentina can cooperate more with India.
"The efforts made by the government to open and diversify the economy will continue to deliver good results for consumers," Caucino said, referring to India's liberalization push.
Argentina, the eighth-largest country by area, has a population of fewer than 50 million. Its agricultural output is large relative to its population. Caucino noted that Argentina sits in a peaceful region with no major geopolitical conflicts, allowing it to provide food and energy security at a time global disruptions persist.
"Together, Argentina and India, by combining our shared agricultural heritage and expertise, we can promote innovation and food security in a sustainable and reliable manner," he said.
