Hyderabad School Fires Teacher Over Religious Homework to Hindu Child

A Hyderabad school terminated a teacher after she assigned Islamic prayers as homework to a Class 2 Hindu student, according to ANI. The teacher, Shaik Aisha Parveen, worked at Success – The School in Sayeedabad. The management permanently disqualified her from future employment at any Success Group institution.

The termination letter, dated July 15, states: "Further you are informed that you are permanently disqualified to apply for employment in future in the Success Group of Education Institutions." The action followed a formal complaint at the Sayeedabad police station, ANI reported.

BJP workers protested outside the school and were detained by Hyderabad police.

The student was asked to recite and memorize the Kalma and Surah Fatiha. The school initially called it a mistake, saying the child was in a section where Deeniyath – Islamic teachings – is usually taught to Muslim students. A local news report said the homework "Read Sura Fatiha" was entered in the school diary on July 15 under the subject Deeniyath. Four days earlier, "Read Kalma" had been assigned but later struck off.
