Atlas Capital's 23.1% stake in Greenidge grew via a July 6 share issuance worth $161,820. The equity-for-interest pattern dilutes outside holders as Greenidge shifts from mining to AI.
Atlas Capital now owns 23.1% of Greenidge Generation, and the way it got there reveals a pattern of dilution for other shareholders.
The stake grew after Greenidge issued 114,199 new Class A shares to Atlas on July 6, 2026. The shares served as an interest payment worth $161,820 under an Equity Interest Payment Agreement. Greenidge is paying its debt with stock, not cash. Each quarterly issuance adds to Atlas's holdings while reducing everyone else's proportional ownership.
The relationship dates back to 2014, when Atlas acquired an idled coal plant in Dresden, New York. Atlas converted it to natural gas. Around 2020, the company layered in Bitcoin mining operations. That plant now powers both mining and grid sales.
Greenidge reported $20.8 million in revenue for Q1 2026. Power and capacity sales accounted for $18.7 million. Mining revenue made up a small slice. The company is pivoting toward artificial intelligence and high-performance computing data centers, using the same on-site power generation capacity.
The equity-for-interest arrangement is a direct signal of cash constraint. Companies that pay interest in stock rather than cash are typically doing so because cash is tight. This is not a one-off event. An earlier interest payment on April 8, 2025 involved 90,954 Class A shares valued at $119,205. The pattern repeats.
Atlas's consolidating position carries governance weight. At 23.1%, Atlas already shapes proxy outcomes. Convertible Class B shares add further potential influence if converted. Atlas, as both creditor and shareholder, gets paid in equity regardless of whether the AI strategy succeeds. Common shareholders bear dilution risk each quarter.
The Equity Interest Payment Agreement remains active. The next quarterly payment will add more shares to Atlas's holdings, further shrinking the stake of everyone outside that circle.
