Germany now has 79 MiCA-authorized crypto service providers, more than double France's 35. The latest six additions are all cooperative banks, showing institutional adoption through traditional channels.
Germany added six cooperative banks to the European Securities and Markets Authority's registry of authorized crypto-asset service providers, widening its lead under the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation. The update published this week raised the global total of registered providers to 331.
The six new names are Raiffeisenbank Aidlingen, Ihre Volksbank, VR-Bank Mittelfranken Mitte, Volksbank Euskirchen, VR Bank Ried-Überwald and Volksbank Backnang. Germany now counts 79 providers regulated under MiCA, up from 57 at the end of June. France holds second place with 35 authorizations. The Netherlands is third with 29.
BaFin, Germany's financial supervisor, said the high number of authorizations reflects the size of the country's financial sector and the number of credit institutions already enabled to offer crypto services. The pre-existing national licensing regime allowed many providers to use simplified procedures during the MiCA transition, BaFin said, giving Germany a structural advantage that most other EU countries lack.
ESMA's other registries showed no major changes. The asset-referenced token list remains empty. The e-money token registry holds 43 entries. The list of non-compliant entities stands at 167. The concentration of authorizations among cooperative banks suggests institutional adoption is advancing through traditional banking channels, not crypto-native firms.
