EPFO 3.0 will let subscribers withdraw PF via UPI and ATMs. Current rules – up to 75% withdrawal, 25% locked – remain. Rollout expected by June-end, no official date yet.
Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) subscribers will soon withdraw savings via UPI apps and EPF-linked ATMs under the EPFO 3.0 digital platform. The government launched the upgrade last year to modernise the retirement body's infrastructure. Instant PF withdrawal through ATM and UPI, auto-claim settlement, and seamless fund transfers to any linked bank account were promised. Media reports say the facility rolls out by June-end. No official date has been announced. Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said testing is complete and rollout will be announced soon.
The mechanism: subscribers need an active Universal Account Number (UAN) linked to Aadhaar, an updated PAN, a verified bank account with correct IFSC code, and a registered mobile number for OTP authentication. The UMANG app will support Face Authentication Technology to reduce paperwork.
What does not change: current withdrawal rules remain. Eligible subscribers can withdraw up to 75% of their PF balance, depending on purpose. At least 25% of the corpus stays locked as a long-term retirement buffer. Media reports suggest the new UPI and ATM facility will enable instant transfers of up to 75% of the available EPF balance directly into the subscriber's linked bank account. EPFO has not set a separate withdrawal limit for digital channels.
Auto-settlement limits have already increased from ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh, allowing more claims to be processed automatically. ATM cards linked to the PF account may also be introduced, according to reports.
For subscribers building a watchlist, the key question is whether the June-end timeline holds. Verify that UAN and Aadhaar are linked, and bank account details are current. Until EPFO issues operational guidelines, the current eligibility conditions, withdrawal limits, and tax rules apply.
No official launch date has been set. Media reports point to June-end.
