CoinGecko, the crypto data aggregator, launched Gecko AI on April 22, a conversational research tool for premium subscribers that draws its answers directly from CoinGecko's own tracked dataset. The feature is available at coingecko.com/chat and sits inside a broader push by the platform into AI-powered analysis.
Instead of clicking through dozens of coin pages and manually comparing metrics, users type a question in plain English. The response comes with a source citation grounded in CoinGecko's data infrastructure. CoinGecko said the tool does not use a general-purpose language model prone to hallucination. It outputs only what its own database contains.
The tool is part of a wider suite of AI-driven features. That suite includes Market Insights and Advanced Charts. Portfolio Insights rounds out the offering. Together, they signal that CoinGecko sees itself as a research platform, not just a price tracker.
Premium subscribers get unlimited queries in an ad-free environment.
CoinGecko's dataset now covers more than 17,400 coins and exchanges, with a combined tracked market capitalization of roughly $2.239 trillion. The platform monitors over 36 million tokens across hundreds of blockchains. Founded in 2014, CoinGecko has long been one of the two major crypto market data aggregators, alongside CoinMarketCap.
The launch is CoinGecko's bet that conversational AI can turn its data collection into a competitive advantage. Rival CoinMarketCap has not yet rolled out a similar natural-language query tool, though it offers its own API-based analytics.
For traders who find spreadsheets or API queries cumbersome, the natural-language interface offers a faster path to data. A user can ask for a comparison of market cap changes, volume trends, or token supply across a set of assets, and receive a verifiable answer in seconds. The tool is designed for those who already know what they are looking for but want to get there without switching across browser tabs.
The platform's move into AI research mirrors a wider trend across financial data providers. Bloomberg, Reuters, and other incumbents have all launched or expanded natural-language query interfaces for their terminals. For crypto, the difference is that the underlying data is public and fragmented across blockchains. CoinGecko's job is to aggregate, standardize, and timestamp it. Gecko AI is the layer that makes that aggregation searchable in one step.
Gecko AI is live now at coingecko.com/chat for premium subscribers.
