Bybit has taken a majority stake in Indonesian crypto exchange NOBI and launched a locally regulated platform called Bybit Indonesia, the company said Wednesday.
The new exchange will operate under the supervision of Indonesia's Financial Services Authority (OJK). It is Bybit's first locally operated and regulated entity in the country, the firm said in a statement shared with Block of Fame.
Bybit acquired a majority stake in PT Enkripsi Teknologi Handal, which operated NOBI. The deal gives Bybit a licensed local entity without building one from scratch.
Bybit Indonesia will initially offer more than 500 cryptocurrency trading pairs, supported by institutional-grade liquidity, market surveillance systems and risk controls from Bybit's global infrastructure. The exchange plans to introduce crypto services in phases, with future products subject to Indonesian regulatory requirements.
Lawrence Samantha has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Bybit Indonesia. Dionisius Evan will serve as Chief Operating Officer, and Steven Gotama joins as Chief Marketing Officer. The existing NOBI management team will continue to run the business.
The acquisition comes as Indonesia remains one of Asia's largest crypto markets. The country had 22.4 million registered crypto consumer accounts as of May 2026, up from 21.7 million in April and 19.56 million at the end of 2025, according to OJK data. Crypto transaction value reached IDR 23.01 trillion (roughly $1.4 billion) in May, slightly above IDR 22.98 trillion in April.
The entry also follows a broader trend of global exchanges pursuing local licenses and acquisitions to strengthen their presence in regulated markets. Metaplanet recently acquired Siibo Securities to expand its Asia-Pacific presence.
Bybit's Indonesia launch comes as prediction market platforms such as Polymarket face a ban in the country. The exchange is also continuing to expand into other assets including stocks, oil trading and its DEX project, Byreal DEX.
No financial terms of the NOBI acquisition were disclosed.
