BlackRock bought $1.87 billion worth of Bitcoin and Ether through its spot ETFs last week, leading a record week for U.S. spot crypto investment products.
The asset manager’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) took in about $1.33 billion between August 17 and August 21, according to data from the fund’s issuer. Daily inflows ranged from $143.6 million to $503 million, with the largest single-day haul on August 20.
The iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA) added $536.8 million over the same period, with daily flows climbing from $25.9 million to a peak of $173.3 million on August 20.
Across all U.S. spot Bitcoin (BTC) ETFs, net inflows reached roughly $1.9 billion for the week. Spot Ethereum (ETH) ETFs pulled in nearly $700 million. Combined, the two categories drew about $2.6 billion, the strongest weekly total since October 2025 and the largest of 2026. Trading volume across the funds more than tripled to about $29 billion.
BlackRock alone accounted for nearly 70% of the week’s Bitcoin ETF inflows and more than 75% of Ethereum ETF inflows.
The buying spree followed a Treasury expansion of long-dated bond buybacks, which weakened the dollar and pushed Bitcoin above $77,000. The rally triggered short covering, drawing fresh institutional capital. Lawmakers advanced discussions on the CLARITY Act, a bill aimed at clarifying crypto oversight.
The week marked a sharp reversal from the prior period, when spot crypto ETFs recorded net outflows.
