Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies opened a customer qualification plant at its Giga Corridor in Mahbubnagar, Telangana, on Wednesday. The 60 MWh facility will produce lithium-ion cells that customers can test and validate before commercial production begins.
The plant bridges the gap between lab-scale research and full-scale manufacturing, the company said. Cells from the facility are expected to reach customers for validation starting in August 2026. The company has invested about ₹500 crore in the plant, part of a cumulative Phase 1 investment of more than ₹1,500 crore under its ₹9,500 crore Giga Corridor programme.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy formally inaugurated the facility. “Amara Raja’s Customer Qualification Plant represents a significant step in building India’s battery manufacturing value chain and reinforces Telangana’s position at the forefront of the country’s clean energy revolution,” he said.
Jayadev Galla, co-founder and chairman of Amara Raja, said the plant is “a significant step towards creating these capabilities and laying the foundation for a trusted, world-class energy ecosystem.”
The CQP joins the company’s advanced research centre, ePositive Energy Labs, and the upcoming Giga 1 manufacturing facility. Together they complete the first phase of the Giga Corridor investment in Telangana.
