A Reuters/Ipsos poll found 63% of Americans believe Donald Trump and his family improperly benefited from cryptocurrencies since he returned to the White House.
The survey, conducted August 14–17 among 1,166 adults with a three-point margin of error, showed 32% considered the family's crypto profits acceptable.
More broadly, 69% of respondents said the president's private business interests shape his government decisions, Reuters reported. That group included two-thirds of independent voters and nine out of ten Democrats.
The finding that cut across party lines: roughly half of the president's own Republicans said his business interests influence his decisions. Seven out of ten Republicans considered the family's crypto operations appropriate.
Financial disclosures released this year showed Trump received more than $1.4 billion from World Liberty Financial and his own memecoin. Those figures fueled Democratic efforts to limit his activity, including Senator Kirsten Gillibrand's proposal to ban elected officials from launching memecoins and calls for hearings on the president's sector earnings.
White House spokesperson Anna Kelly rejected any suggestion of a conflict of interest and said Trump acts exclusively in the public interest. The president maintained he has no operational involvement in the family businesses nor any role in managing his investments.
The poll arrives as legislators debate provisions within the Clarity Act that seek to restrict the president's crypto ventures. A Senate vote is expected in September.
